EUROPEAN MODERN
These images reflect modern European architecture as I’ve seen it on my travels.
I lived in south-east Sweden from 2015 to 2019, and again from late 2022 to mid-2024. While in Sweden, I travelled mostly for work, but occasionally for leisure, taking in as much art, history, culture and architecture as possible.
My preferred destinations included:
London – my favourite city in the world, bar none.
Edinburgh – a town in dire need of a jet wash.
Isle of Skye – possibly the post peaceful place on Earth (out of tourist season).
Vienna – an absolutely amazing city, full of (occaisonally dubious) history and with an incredible cafe culture.
Cornwall – the light is amazing, but you can keep the pastys. Sacreligious, I know.
Most of these images, however, were taken in Sweden, and in what many consider to be the capital of modern European architecture: Denmark. I was fortunate in that my Swedish home, in Helsingborg, was only around 80 minutes drive from Copenhagen.
Copenhagen is famous for many things, it’s architecture being one of them. You can even do guided walking tours of Copenhagen’s architecture, put together by the Danish Architecture Center. DAC even has a free app that you can use to discover some of the city’s hidden gems!
