KOENIGSEGG GRIPEN ATELIER
Opened: 2023
Koenigsegg is a Swedish manufacturer of hand-built, extreme high performance sports cars. The company was founded in 1994 by Christian von Koenigsegg and moved to its current location in 2003 after a factory fire at its previous premises in Margretatorp. Koenigsegg’s factory is located on what was once a Swedish Air Force base. The company offices were a former military office building and two adjacent hangars were used for vehicle assembly.
I was fortunate to work for Koenigsegg between 2015 and 2019 as their PR/Communications Manager, and again 2023/24 as a PR consultant. While I made my living at Koenigsegg with my pen, I also took photos that were used in various platforms to promote the company. I took these images of the recently-completed Gripen Atelier, Koenigsegg’s newly built and expanded space, which was opened in mid-2023. The images were later used in Koenigsegg’s annual magazine, released in mid-2024.
Koenigsegg underwent significant expansion between 2019 and 2022 with the release of three new models – Jesko, Gemera and CC850. These editions sold quickly, so the company drew up plans to expand its facility in order to increase its production capacity.
The Koenigsegg Gripen Atelier is an expansion of the company’s previous facility. It offers:
10,000sqm of new vehicle assembly space, including engine/transmission lab and dynomometers
a showroom to display vehicles and other items specifically designed to show the company’s technology breakthroughs
a customer suite to facilitate meetings with clients and allow them to ‘spec’ their vehicles at the factory (choose paint, interior colours, etc)
office space for the company’s growing marketing and events team
multi-use spaces suitable for vehicle deliveries and whole-of-company meetings
a restaurant and staff dining/relaxation facilities.
outdoor dining spaces for use during warmer/lighter months
The Gripen Atelier was designed by JKAB Arkitekter. The aesthetic is very modern, mirroring Koenigsegg’s position in the market as a designer and builder of cars with cutting-edge technology.
